Each country has its own structure and culture of labour relations. Generally speaking, Dutch labour relations adhere to the dialog model and strive for consensus. This has created a number of regulatory mechanisms between the two sides (employers and employees) and the government. The keywords guiding Dutch labour relations are: decentralization, differentiation and customization. This unique way of consultation results among others in high productivity and a low strike rate.
The course Dutch Labour Relations offers foreign managers (temporarily) working in the Netherlands or responsible for the business in the Netherlands knowledge on Dutch labour relations. The training also comprises the competences needed to interact in daily practice with personnel, the Works Council or the trade unions (as far as present) in the company. The curriculum is based on a thorough national and international knowledge of negotiations and company practice and the contribution of various senior experts from AWVN.

The course Dutch Labour and Fiscal Law relations provides foreign managers (temporarily) working in the Netherlands or responsible for the business in the Netherlands knowledge on a need to know basis of Dutch labour and fiscal law. The curriculum is based on a thorough knowledge of the legislation and the contribution of various senior experts from AWVN.


 

Training methods
With respect to the busy agenda of the participants the compact and functional program is concentrated into one day. The language of instruction is English. Considering their experience and position, participants are expected to contribute actively to the training by discussing practice and various options. The number of participants is restricted. The participants will receive reading material and publications from AWVN on Dutch labour relations.

Considering their experience and position, participants are expected to contribute actively to the training by sharing experiences and by doing casework. The number of participants is restricted. The participants will receive reading material and publications from AWVN on Dutch labour and fiscal law. The trainers are experienced advisors and familiar with the complexity of the international corporate structure.

Programme
Participants are kindly requested to mail their specific questions or interests beforehand so the trainers can try to take this into account in setting up the program. The program is focused on interaction and starts with a mutual introduction and an exchange of the learning goals by the participants. The items to be discussed are:
• the negotiating principles in the Dutch arena.
• the panorama of stakeholders and how to deal with their interests.
• the specific negotiating area on productivity and pay.
• terms and conditions.
• law based regulatory mechanisms; hiring and contracts of employment; dismissals and restructuring.
• how to deal with the Works Council. 
• managing Dutch culture.
• future trends in managing labour force in the Netherlands.

• the Dutch tax system (payroll)
• social security
• the Dutch social security system
• labour law
   - contracts: shapes and sizes
   - how to hire and fire
   - works council/employer participation
   - disability and employer liability issues
   - recent developments in labour law.
